Jet engine conical air inflow

Filed under: Letters from Ionia — Tags: — zankaon @ 12:40 pm

Some newer airliner jets have very large air intake cross sections; hence supposedly consistent with a leaner mixture, and thus greater fuel efficiency. However isn’ t the air intake drawing on a wider conical air ‘column’? So irregardless of the circular cross conic section taken, still doesn’t one have the same conical air ‘column’ inflow? Hence no change in fuel efficiency?
