Newtonian allusions?

Filed under: Letters from Ionia — Tags: — zankaon @ 9:39 pm

Does Newton’s Second Theorem contradict his First Theorem? That is, the iron sphere, in First Theorem, can be considered as a point mass, as in Second Theorem. Thus there would be persistence of curvature (gravitational field) for inside such spherical distribution of mass. The geometric argument in the First Theorem might be correct, but the description would not seem to be emphasizing the physical description.
