Legacy lost?

Filed under: Letters from Ionia — Tags: , — zankaon @ 9:58 pm

Are we any better in preserving legacy than our predecessors? Libraries burn, books disappear, hard drives cease, networks fail as storage devices, dark ages descend. Might flash memory be a solution? Record everything from music to academics, trivia, graphics – present and past. Place in corner stones of existing as well as new buildings, houses etc., or in adjacent softer cement blocks. Thus our culture, present and past, is definitively saved for posterity. Is flash memory our modern day equivalent of Sumerian cuneiform? Perhaps a future archeological dig at 1000, 10,000, or 100 thousand years? They would know where to look. Legacy – a task for all of us?
